Our Mission: To protect and preserve our natural heritage while developing a Botanical Garden dedicated to Mexican flora and providing an oasis of peace and tranquility.

First Earth Day Event Big Success

San Miguel’s first Earth Day event, a clean-up on Saturday, April 29 of areas outside Parque Landeta and El Charco del Ingenio, was a huge success.

About 150 people of all ages and from several communities collected scattered garbage from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., separating out recyclable plastic bottles.

Participants were divided into teams of 15, each with bandanas of distinctive colors and a flag with the name of a tree. They used finger paint to leave their handprints on a large canvas which will be displayed in San Miguel’s Jardín later this month.

By the end of the day, the teams had collected 168 bags of garbage that were then picked up by the city. After the clean-up, the volunteers were treated to a puppet show with an environmental message at a nearby school.

Aside from educating the participants about environmental issues —and leaving a cleaner area near Parque Landeta, and El Charco del Ingenio— the event also demonstrated a strong community spirit. It was a wonderful sight to see a group of people working together towards a common goal that benefits all. Thanks to everyone who came out!

And thanks to Cristina Gonzalez, Director of Parque Landeta & staff for organizing this event, and almost 30 sponsors from the public and private sector.

Regina is from San Miguel, fluently bilingual and has volunteered with several organizations in town. We thank Julio and welcome Regina to El Charco.

What’s Flowering: Although May is our driest, hottest month, there are still several flowers to be seen at the garden, including Echinocereus, Bombax Astrophytum ornatum, and even more inside the conservatory.

Volunteers: We would like to thank the volunteers who helped at the Earth Day event which started quite early.

Regina can use a few more people helping her in the Visitor Reception/Store area.

Once the rainy season starts we will need quite a few volunteers helping to maintain the garden.

Please contact Naomi at nzerriffi@yahoo.com or 152 1829 for these or other volunteer opportunities.

Water Treatment plant …..stay tuned for news about work starting on this shortly.
